Our food philosophy

We like to describe our food as “green market chic”. We love transforming humble farmers’ market ingredients into gourmet dishes presented with an eye for design. In the fall this could be an hors d’oeuvres like our truffled parnsip brushcetta or in the summer a sweet corn panna cotta with bacon and basil.

Our specialty is creating menus that are completely customized to your needs.

We work with corporate clients including packaged goods manufacturers, luxury product companies, lifestyle companies, and PR firms to create menus highlighting their products. From designing red themed hors d’oeuvres for a perfume launch–to creating a dinner and dessert menu incorporating stout for a beer company, it’s our passion and mission to delivery our clients a totally unique catering experience.

About Our Chef & Creative Director

Sweet Basil Catering is the passion project of professionally trained chef, food stylist, and award-winning caterer, Amy Aversa. Amy started her career at the Institute of Culinary Education, where she graduated with honors. After apprenticing at Mario Batali’s Italian Wine Merchants and stints at some of New York City’s best catering companies and restaurants, Amy started Sweet Basil Catering in 2008. Amy has been called a culinary narrator and curator of cuisine, helping her clients tell their stories through food.

Her full-service catering and event planning company has been entrusted with catering events ranging from celebrity clients including Bill Clinton, Eli Manning, Ryan Seacrest, and the cast of the Real Housewives of New York City to some of the world’s largest Fortune 50 companies.

She has appeared on the Dr. Oz show with her healthy food creations and was the winner of Spike TV’s “Frankenfood” NYC show with her “Gotham City Triple Decker” pastrami donut creation. Her work has appeared in publications such as New York Weddings best NYC caterers edition, Brides Magazine, and Bloomberg News. And, like icing on the cake, Sweet Basil Catering, was awarded the 2010 Brides Choice Award for excellence in wedding catering by Martha Stewart Weddings and Wedding Wire.
